My Trainer

My trainer comes over twice a week. Mommy and Daddy take turns exercising while she pets me. It's kind of weird--maybe that's how they pay her or something. Anyway, it's nice to have someone come over just to pick me up and tickle my belly. I am in excellent shape, as this action shot shows.

Parents, Part II

Daddy is my other parent. I assume that's his name because that's what Mommy calls him (and vice versa). Daddy really likes dogs--more than humans, I think. He used to rescue them but now he has me so I guess he's fulfilled or something. Daddy and I both like to nap. That's what we're about to do in this picture. Daddy doesn't like to go outside as much as Mommy, but he's always game for a round of "chase" or "fetch" inside the house.

Parents

This is my mommy. She is very silly. She takes me and Jeremy for walks in the afternoon, because she usually gets home before Daddy. She feeds us and I like to sit on her lap, even if Annika or Jeremy got there first. What can I say? I'm the kind of girl who gets what she wants. Yesterday, Mommy and Daddy were taking a shower and I tried to get in with them. I can't stand to be far away from my parents!

Guest Post

Hello, furred ones. I, Annika, write this epistle from atop my ivory tower (I jest not, my "kitty condo" is off-white and quite high). Pixie requested my help with her web log, or "blog", as she was busy destuffing. At least, I believe that is what she meant when she said, "Cahhnphewwsttypth?" Yes, you brain behemoth, I type approximately 60 wpm. It would be faster, if they would simply make the keys bigger so I didn't push hit than one at a time.

All particulars aside, I'd like to remark on the events of the day. Firstly, it rained. If you do not live in these environs, you may not realize that rain has neglected us of late, so much so that I have remained indoors, not caring to enter the 107 degree heat when the grass is so dessicated it cuts my tender paws like glass spikes sticking up from an overly baked pan of brownies. Bravo, Rain!

Secondly, the white man who used to be black has passed on to Ceiling Cat. While I enjoyed twitching my tail to his catchy tunes, I found the man's physiognomy disturbing. His parents may have mistreated him as a boy, but this is no reason for malevolent behavior and self-destruction (or self-construction, if you're a positivist).

It is now time for my mid-evening nap, so I bid you adieu, until the next canine innard annihilation emergency.

R.I.P., Lobsty

One of my favorite toys, Lobsty the Red Lobster, has a hole. While I thorougly enjoy pulling all of his stuffing out, this means that he will soon be thrown into the trash. What will I do without all of his antennae and legs to chew on and throw around? Oh Lobsty, I'll miss you!

Scary Movies

I don't really like scary movies. I like to sit on my friends' laps and cuddle while they watch movies but scary movies involve screaming.

Screaming hurts my ears! So, the next time you guys decide to watch Jaws, let me know so I can hide in the bedroom.

K thanks.

HOOOTTTTT

As in, my goodness it's getting a little bit overheated round about here. We came back from our walk&bake (have I mentioned it's about 100 degrees out?) and the house was warm. Daddy checked the thermostat and it was already over 80 degrees. He called the home warranty people and they promised to Get Right On It...tomorrow. I hate them. Luckily, Aunties and Uncles live close by, so we will go there to cool off.

p.s. here's a picture of me taken by my cousin. She's 7. That's 1 in dog years.

Splash Party!

First, Daddy bought a pool and filled it with water.

Auntie Vanessa brought my BFF Bunny and also another guy, Hunter, and we all ran around the yard for a while.

Some of us got put in the pool and some of us got chased with the hose (haha, Hunter!).

We all got wet and rolled around a lot, but then Daddy gave us all baths.

My favorite part was when Daddy gave us treats!

Kitty tried to pretend she was a dog who'd had a bath, but Daddy is pretty smart and didn't fall for it.

Then we all fell asleep.

Puke Party

This sleepover started off rocky, but so far it's been fun. Tomorrow we're having a Doggy Splash Party. If you haven't ever been to one, this is what a doggy sleepover looks like:

For the first day, Jeremy was very sick and threw up a million bajillion eleventy times, all over Mommy's new rug. He also drank up all of the water so Snow and I were really thirsty. He got medicine and baby drinks to make him better and Daddy slept on the couch with all of us instead of on the bed. That day was pretty much a Puke Party.

I will try to post pictures from the splash party tomorrow.

My Friend Snow

Snow is coming, Snow is coming! No, not the meteorological phenomenon, but my friend. She even moved here with us to our new house, but this is the first time since then that she's come to stay. I have missed her, especially since Jeremy is not feeling good. He ate too many of the little fruits in the backyard and gave himself a tummy ache.

Anyway, Snow and I play and play and every night while she's here I am exhausted. I love it when my friends come over for a sleepover!

Leaders

Have you been following the election hooha in Iran? This situation is nothing new. Human leaders frequently make elections come out the way they want. I could cite several elections in the past 10 years, but I think you see where I'm going.

Things are very different in the dog world. I don't know if you've noticed, but dogs quickly figure out who's the boss and whose job it is to follow around the boss. If you're confused about it, put down one bowl of food and see who gets to eat first and who moves away if another dog comes along. Top dogs get the best resting spots, best bits of meat, and first crack at, ahem, procreating. That's how we pass on those top dog genes!

When dogs meet, they sniff. Occasionally they tussle a bit and fake hump. The humper is attempting to show dominance, which is sometimes accepted and sometimes rewarded with a growl and a nip. I am a champion fake humper. However, I am not the top dog at my house. Amongst the animules, there is only one queen.

Dogs are Not Humans

This morning, Mommy let me outside because I was starting to whimper a little bit. I couldn't help it--I hadn't been outside for 10 hours! She went back to bed, so after taking care of business, I started investigating the yard to see what was new. I found some green fruit (score!), evidence of birds (duh, we had just chased them away) and a wee bit of poop. I got the tiniest measure on my paw and Mommy had a fit. I heard Daddy just rat on me and tell Mommy that I rolled in some more when we were out walking. Some things should be kept between you and me, buddy.

A Day in the Life of Pixie

5:30. Mommy's phone beeps and she wakes up Daddy. I refuse to get out of bed until Mommy or Daddy make me so they can make the bed.
6:15. Walk. I love looking for chicken bones, nuts, or anything else that might be food. It's also great to sniff who was out earlier and see what they had for dinner. I don't believe in staying on one side--if I see or smell something great, I'm on it! I whine at each and every dog, squirrel and bird I see. I want them to know they're my friends!
6:30. Breakfast. Jeremy scarfs his down but I like to take my time. Sometimes we also get leftover kitty food. Yum!
7:00. Try to get some play time in before Mommy and Daddy disappear.
7:30-4:30. Sleepytime. We take breaks to bark at the mailman, squirrels, and anyone else who comes near the house.
4:30. Mommy comes home. Usually she lays down on the bed so we can play. This is a picture of me playing.

4:45. Walk. See above, although it's usually hotter and we're ready to get home for drink.
5:30. Dinner.
6:30. I try to be around while Mommy is cooking in case she needs me to clean up. There is a risk of getting stepped on, but I've found it's worth it because she is very clumsy.
7:00. During dinner, I like to sit quietly and stare at Mommy and Daddy. If something falls from their plates, I have to get it before Jeremy does. Mommy calls me a shark because I circle around their feet.
7:30-bedtime. I get in as much playtime as possible.
Bedtime. I'm ti-ti and need to curl up between Mommy and Daddy on the bed. If they make me move, I just wait a few minutes and crawl back to my spot. Sometimes Daddy covers me up and I sleep all night. My favorite dreams involve squirrels and chicken bones, although the ones about giant feet trying to stomp me are scary! If I have a bad dream, Mommy wakes me up and cuddles me.
5:30. A new day begins!

Friends

I'm a very sociable dog and I have many friends. In fact, I consider each and every dog I see to be a potential friend. I don't care if you're growling, barking, trying to edge away from me, I think we could be BFFs! My at-home BFF is Jeremy. Jeremy is old and crotchety, but he still plays with me and walks with me at least twice a day. I have three other BFFs: Bunny (see my first post for a pic); Snow, who lives down the street and comes to stay pretty often; and Austin. Here's me and Austin resting up after a play session.

It's very important to have friends because sometimes Mommy and Daddy get tired of throwing Clifford, Pink Doggy and Lobsty for me to bring back. Jeremy, as I mentioned, is old and only wants to play sometimes. I would like to play ALL of the time! Hence, friends. Whenever Bunny, Snow or Austin come to visit, we run around for hours, chasing each other and playing tug with my toys. Usually we have to play with my rope toys because some of my friends, ahem, you know who you are, like to chew up my nice toys. We also run around outside. There are lots of fun things to eat outside, some of them try to crawl away or fly away so that is waaaaay more exciting.

More on the subject of friends tomorrow!

Beer Cans, French Fries and Greasy Napkins

One thing I've always been curious about: food trash. It's a boon to dogs, sure, but what thoughts go through a human's head? "Mm mm mmm, that was some good chicken. I'd better share the bone with my dead homies." It's not in my nature to leave food behind, not without a fight.

This morning I found a single cheezit. Mom wouldn't even let me eat it, which is unfair. It's not like she's going to eat it!

In other news, our backyard is full of small green fruit. I don't know what it is, but it's tasty! Everytime I go out, I try to scarf up as many as possible. Mommy's friend says there is other fruit I will get to snack on next year and I can't wait. Even if it upsets my tummy, no problem. As we canines say, "Food is sublime, the second time."

Here's a gratuitous picture of me for you to stare at.

Tuesday News

Hi, my name is Pixie and I am a dog. While I spend a lot of time sleeping, when awake I pay close attention to the world. You can see my keen disdain for fashion in this photo:

Thank goodness Mom doesn't make me wear scarves.

I heard today on the "news" that Sam Houston Racepark is hosting Wiener Dog Races. What the &*#$? I could beat a wiener dog in a race running backward and dragging another wiener dog. Still, it sounds like a laugh if nothing else. Can you imagine all of those wiener dog moms and dads yelling "GO, Peanut!" and "Move your a&#%, Squinty!"? Not to mention the betting taking place. "Give me 50 on Schweinhund to win in the 3rd, and 100 on Bootsy in the 5th."

Anyway, that's all the news for today. Check back soon for more, if I'm not too tired from barking at the squirrels.
